Para revisar este mito, hay que ir por parte. Cierto es que Carlos Ibáñez era un homofóbico declarado – hay historiadores que afirman que es el presidente más homofóbico de la historia – y que abusaba de un resquicio legal del Código Penal Chileno para perseguir a los homosexuales, los que no eran perseguidos por el acto de sodomía, el cual era constituitivo de delito, si no que por su condición de homosexual. O sea, si eras gay, estabas cometiendo un delito y, como no se puede dejar de ser gay, estarías siendo un delincuente por el resto de tu vida (?).
Cierto es también que, muchos de los homosexuales que eran detenidos por las fuerzas de orden público eran enviados a campos de detención – principalmente a Pisagua -, los cuales eran dispuestos para aquellos quienes se manifestaban en contra de la dictadura de Ibáñez, en su gran mayoría comunistas y socialistas. Por lo tanto, podríamos decir que los homosexuales eran tan enemigos del orden público como lo eran los partidos de inspiración marxista, por lo que había deshacerse de ellos de la forma más rápida posible para mantener el orden.
Sin embargo, como Pisagua ya no estaba dando abasto, había que llevar a cabo una especie de «solución final», cuestión que habría motivado a Ibáñez a dar la orden de hacer una especie de «barrida» en contra de gays y comunistas, subirlos a un bote y que este no llegara nunca al puerto.
Se dice que el barco se hundió con mucha gente, pero nunca se han dado números de cuantas personas habrían fallecido. Además, hay que tener en cuenta que un naufragio siempre es noticia y dentro del periodo en que Ibáñez detentó el poder (1927 – 1931) no hay registro alguno de un naufragio de proporciones, pues el mito nada dice en que año se produjo el naufragio. Igualmente, no hay registros de denuncias de los familiares de los supuestos desaparecidos, pues, de haber sido detenidos para nunca más volver, sus familias algo habrían hecho, si no todas, al menos una gran parte. Finalmente, tampoco nunca se ha dicho como conchas se hundió el barco, porque, aunque haya sido un lanchón chilote, este no se hunde de la nada.
Del mismo modo, es necesario señalar que en los libros «Historia del Partido Socialista» de Julio César Jobet y «El Partido Comunista de Chile. Una historia presente» de Augusto Varas, hay referencias a la persecución llevada a cabo en contra de socialistas y comunistas por parte de Ibáñez, pero nada se menciona respecto a paseos en lancha de compañeros y camaradas junto a personas de manito quebrada.
Sin embargo, dada la aversión transversal que había en la época hacia los homosexuales la cual se extendía desde los conservadores hasta los comunistas y anarquistas, no se puede descartar que a más de alguno lo hayan subido a pasear en un bote, lo hayan obligado a tirarse al agua con un salvavidas de Polpaico, nadie se haya enterado y a nadie le haya importado, pero, de ahí a que haya sido un barco entero, muy difícil.
Según Gonzalo Vial Correa, historiador y del biógrafo del facismo chileno, el mito se origina en la rabia que le habría ocasionado a Ibáñez enterarse que el hijo que había tenido con Rosa Letelier se lo comía atravesado, por lo que habría decidido mandar a todos los gays a nadar con los piures, pero de eso tampoco hay certeza alguna. Por lo tanto, podemos decir que, aunque Ibáñez haya sido un chuchadesumadre y homofóbico no se le puede achacar este crimen pues nunca ocurrió.
Ibañez aparte de ser un ignorante reculiao, fue un conchesumadre de tomo y lomo. Para colmo mi región lleva su nombre… FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU-
